I’m so fucking sick of cis women being like “what does it matter that i use bi lesbian! it’s just a label and labels can’t hurt people :))” meanwhile trans and nonbinary lesbians are out here detailing exactly how it hurts us and how it had a transphobic origin with terfs but nothing ever changes with cis people i guess huh

like WHY is that the go-to argument that EVERYBODY uses? we have tossed out SO many labels for being harmful actually, it’s literally a blatant lie! we have tossed out labels that were about genital attraction, labels that were about trans/nonbinary fetishization, labels that were about attraction to intelligence, the list actually goes fucking on and on. labels aren’t inherently “valid” just for being descriptive of something you percieve about yourself. they demonstrably can cause harm to communities. it’s a 1+1=2 thing when you take someone else’s label, redefine it, and multiple people respond that it hurts them.

if a community is saying “your label is causing me harm” and your go to response is “labels can’t cause harm :)” you’re full of BULLSHIT

and if your go-to policy on dealing with labels is no criticism allowed acceptance, you’re definitely going to cause long term damage. we are a CO EXISTING community, meaning the effects you have on other communities matters if you want to exist here. you don’t get to do what you want to the detriment of other communities because “everything is valid.”

if you are defining sexialities in a way that causes harm to trans/nb people and/or other sexualities, you don’t even have the RIGHT to say “labels don’t hurt anyone :)” you have the right to shut the fuck up and be respectful.

no but like this is literally exactly why “bi lesbian” advocating people shouldn’t even touch the lesbian label the way they do.

they ONLY see it as “just a label.” it’s just a fucking word to them. something mutable. meanwhile actual lesbians see it as a definition of our existence. we have history, culture, sub-cultures, and specific language that all hangs on the very specific definition of ourselves and who we define as part of our community.

these people will never see lesbianism that way. to them it’s just a word. just a discourse topic. just a label. if they can say “labels don’t hurt people :)” they see “lesbian” as just a label, with nothing deeper they could be intruding on or damaging. which means they shouldn’t be fucking using the term “lesbian,” or at the very least, educate themselves before they open their mouths.

lesbian isn’t just a word.
